Third-Party Fire & Theft Insurance


Third-party fire and theft is the next step up from third party only insurance.  It gives you the minimum legal cover you need but also some extras.  It will normally cover you for :-

  • Damage to a third-party’s property
  • Injury to, or death of, a third party
  • Theft of your car or bike
  • Vandalism to your vehicle if stolen
  • Accidental fire, or deliberate arson by a thief
  • Legal fees if you are required to go to court

As with all car and bike insurance, most companies will require that any incident is reported to the police in order to consider any claim.  A third party is normally defined as any person who is not the policy-holder.

This type of insurance will NOT normally cover you for :-

  • Damage to your own vehicle
  • Driving or riding other people’s cars or bikes
  • Accidental damage
  • Windscreen cover

Third-party fire and theft insurance is normally cheaper than comprehensive, because of the risks it   excludes but generally the older the car and the lower its value the lower the premium for comp cover.
