Explaining Third-Party Only Insurance

Third-party only insurance is the most basic type that you must have in order to comply with the Road Traffic Act.  It gives you cover for damage or injury to a third party if you cause an accident.
Specifically, it will not cover you for :-

  • Damage to your car, motorbike or other vehicle
  • Personal injury to yourself

Imagine you have an accident and it’s your fault.  If that happens, your insurance company will pay what it is legally obliged to, to other parties, even if someone else is killed.  However it will not pay for damage to your vehicle, nor to you if you are hurt in the accident.

Third-party only insurance is very rarely cheaper as most insurers no longer offer a rate without the fire and theft option. It covers much less risk than other types of policy which makes it hard to recommend or endorse so you have to weigh up the uninsured risks to you and your vehicle.
If you want to be insured more fully, you need to choose either
