What does this mean ?


When it comes to imported cars, there are two main categories - grey imports and parallel imports.  So what's the difference?

A grey import is a car from a non-EU country, typically Japan or America, which does not have a UK-equivalent specification.

A parallel imported car comes from an EU country, it's right-hand drive but is imported from outside of the UK. They are built to EU specifications and as such are acceptable in the UK.

What are the insurance implications?

A couple of issues for you to consider :-

Grey imports - many insurers shy away because they're unsure of the specification, engine size, availability of parts in the event of an accident, etc.  However you can contact us safe in the knowledge that we'll normally get you insured fast.

Security - you'll do yourself a lot of favours if you start looking at having a Category 1 or 2 Thatcham security system installed, if your vehicle doesn't already have this.  We can advise you.
