Do I get a discount for being a club member?

We offer a 15% discount for Members of a Kit Car club. Proof of membership is required, usually a copy of your current membership card.

What is Q-Plated Vehicle Insurance?

Vehicles which have a “Q” as the first letter of the registration plate are referred to as “Q-plated”.  Most kit cars will fall into this category as they are self built with parts from various cars of various ages. This confirms that the age of the vehicle cannot be determined which is the reason that the DVLA assign a Q plate prefix. You can find more information about registering your kit car on the DVLA website at http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSellingAVehicle/RegisteringAVehicle/DG_10014246

When do I have to take out insurance if I’m building/rebuilding my kit car?

You can choose to insure your kit car from the moment you buy the kit of parts or when it is fully built.  This will then cover you for the loss or theft of parts until you’ve completed the self-build and are using the car in earnest, for a period of 12 months.

Can I insure my kit car before it has been registered?

Yes.  All we require is the chassis number from you and we will send you a cover note. Once the local tax office assign a registration number we can then issue the correct documentation for the vehicle to be used on the public highway.

Do you have limited mileage discounts for kitcars?

Most kitcar insurance is subject to limits on mileage due to the nature of the vehicle and its daily limitations.  However if you are a die hard and wish to commute everyday that is fine but you will pay a bit more. Mileage limitations generally start at 1500 miles and can be extended to around 6000 if you wish to benefit from the best premiums.

What happens if I exceed my mileage limit?

You must call our Customer service department who should be able to increase your mileage limit on your policy.  If the mileage can not be increased you may have to cancel the policy and take out a new one.   Our advice is to think carefully about how you will use your kit car before you take out the insurance cover.

Do you cover the transfer of the parts if I’m building/rebuilding a car?

We can do this, but this is something to discuss with our Customer Services Team.  Give us a call on 0800 130 3744.

Do you offer “goods in transit” cover?  What does that mean?

We can offer this but again it’s something to discuss with us so that we ensure you have the right insurance for your needs.  Essentially this means that you would be insured for transporting your kit car or parts on a trailer.  Call our Team on 0800 954 2875 and we’ll be happy to talk this through with you.
