Insurance Claim FAQs – Additional Information

Claiming Under Your Car or Bike Insurance

This is the second Premium Choice page for our clients, answering frequently asked questions when you have to make an insurance claim.

If you haven’t already done so, please also read the first page of our Insurance Claims FAQs.

How long will it take you to sort out my claim?

This depends on the circumstances but we will always aim to do this as efficiently as possible.

It may involve a simple assessment of damage in the event of no-one else being involved.  If third parties were involved in the accident then naturally we will have to communicate with their insurers to assess the full extent of the claim.

What kind of documentation or other evidence is required?

We do understand that many people’s expectation of the insurance claims process is that it will be long-winded and involve the filling in of many forms.

Rest assured that we will endeavour to keep the whole process as simple as possible for you.  However it is inevitable that any claim must satisfy certain criteria in order for it to be accepted and a payment made.  Unfortunately this does involve you filling in some forms and signing them.

In most cases a claim can be satisfied in a very efficient manner if all information is provided and it is clear that the claim is completely genuine.

Insurance fraud has grown considerably in recent years and this has affected the cost of premiums to the vast majority of law-abiding members of the general public.  Insurers are naturally keen to make sure that the cost of premiums is kept as low as possible – for you and for all other honest people.

At Premium Choice we will do everything we can to resolve your claim efficiently.  We value the relationship we have with all clients and are proud of our professional reputation.

What if my car has been stolen or damaged by fire?

If your car has been stolen or vandalised then the police should be involved.  You should contact them immediately and you will be given a crime reference number, often referred to as a CRN.  It is possible that a representative of the insurers will have to visit you so that you can help them with the full details of the case.

It is regrettable for genuine claimants that insurance fraud has become more widespread over recent years.  Naturally the insurers will want to be certain that your case is genuine and they may wish to check with various organisations such as the Claims Underwriting Exchange and the Motor Insurers Anti Fraud & Theft Register.

In order to protect you and deal with your claim promptly, you must ensure that all information you give is accurate.

How does my ‘policy excess’ affect my claim?

Every insurance policy has an excess.  You can read more about this on our insurance excess page.  Excesses normally apply to your own losses and will not be applied to losses from third parties involved in any incident.

Will I get a courtesy car?

This will depend on the terms of your policy.  In order to keep insurance premiums as low as possible, most insurers will offer a small car to keep you mobile, unless you had opted for a ‘like-for-like’ courtesy car when you took out your policy.

How will my No Claims Bonus be affected if I make a claim?

If you opted for no claims bonus protection and we can recover all costs from a third party, then you will retain your bonus except in exceptional circumstances.

If you did not choose to protect your no claims bonus and we cannot recover all losses, then your bonus will be forfeited or reduced depending on the circumstances.
