Should I buy a Thatcham security system?

We recommend buying a Thatcham approved system.  We further recommend that this be installed by an approved company.  Thatcham have launched a 'Thatcham Recognised Installer' scheme and are encouraging all companies engaged in the provision of vehicle security systems to apply for recognition.

Fitting a Thatcham-approved immobiliser can substantially lower the cost of your insurance!

Where can I find a Thatcham-approved installer of vehicle security systems?

Keys

Never leave your keys in your vehicle – not even if you are just popping into a shop or garage forecourt for a minute. 

Not only will this invalidate your insurance but it also makes you an open and easy target for car thieves.  You could come out to find your vehicle gone or any possessions such as bags, sat navs, sound systems, etc, stolen.


Parking and garaging

At Premium Choice we do understand that not everyone has the luxury of a secure garage or off-street parking.  That said, if you have this option and consistently keep your vehicle on a driveway or securely garaged, this can significantly reduce the cost of your insurance.


Combatting smash and grab

This is mostly common sense but it’s still worth saying it.  Please don’t leave anything in your vehicle in clear view of a casual thief.  This includes mobile phones, bags, jackets, i-pods, detachable satellite navigation systems, etc.  Your no claims bonus is extremely valuable to you and you should take every precaution to protect it.

Newer cars and vans have now started to be fitted with EPG (Enhanced Protection Glazing).  This is significantly harder to break than the conventional glass normally used in side windows.  Whilst it’s not impregnable, it does offer further protection and takes longer to break and enter a vehicle.
