Fitting immobilisers and alarmsOne of the questions you will be asked by any insurer is about alarms and immobilisers. The reason is simple: car and vehicle theft remains a major problem in the UK and insurers are combatting costs of around £2 billion per annum. Most cars since the mid 90’s are generally fitted with immobilisers as standard but this is not the case with older models. You should not assume that an older vehicle is less attractive to a thief. Without an immobiliser they are easier to steal and they can often be worth more to the thief by breaking them up and selling the parts. This is why insurers will look on you more favourably if you take your car’s security seriously. 
Who or what are Thatcham?Thatcham’s full name is the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre. It is a not-for-profit organisation set up by British insurers in 1969 and is dedicated to research regarding the cost of insurance claims and improving safety in the event of an accident. In 1997 vans were included in the scheme and two years later in 1999 motorbikes were also added.
